This 1896 Wellington Upright Grand Piano, reborn through Big Blind’s artistry, embodies both grandeur and grief. Titled To Be Robbed of Sight & Sword, it is painted in a baroque-inspired palette of rich turquoise, marbled browns, and muted whites that swirl across its surface like fractured memories. The piano’s classical form becomes a vessel of confession, recalling the night Blind was drugged, stripped of his glasses and weapon, and ultimately of his muse. The absence of her presence reverberates through the instrument’s frame, echoing silence where music once promised beauty. Ornamental, yet hauntingly raw, the piano becomes both relic and requiem—an artifact of shattering disappointment and irretrievable love. Its painted panels shimmer with anguish and devotion, balancing opulence against tragedy. In this work, Blind transforms personal devastation into timeless art, giving voice to loss, vulnerability, and the fragility of human connection through an instrument meant to sing.
